Worship Support Ministry Report 2007

My area's of responsibilities are Ushering,Hospitality, Espresso, and Publications & Information.

The most obvious change has been in the greeters and ushers. We have moved to a dedicated group of volunteers that perform these important ministries each week following a rotating schedule. This contributes to a smooth worship service. Also we have added name tags toidentify ushers and greeters. This makes visitors more comfortable and allowsmembers to know who to go to if they need something. The ushers have also accepted the added responsibility of parking lot and building security duringworship services. When we are worshiping together on Sunday morning we shouldbe able to relax in the belief that our vehicles are relatively safe.

We haven't made any real improvements in theespresso stand yet but we are open to any idea's for improvements in how to useit. I believe the espresso machine has a lot of unexplored potential forministry, The people who operate it are very good at what they do but right nowthere are to few trained people to properly operate it. We need a comprehensivetraining program for new operators and some good Ideas as to how we might use it.

In publications we are doing pretty well butwe have not expanded our bulletin staff. This is probably the next area ofattention. We need volunteers to be trained on the computer and that can alsobe available for printing, folding and collating the bulletin each week. You will be seeing sign up sheets in the near future.

Thank You

2007 Sunday Morning Worship Ministries Report

My area of responsibility is the worship ministries at CLC.This includes the worship team, AV/Tech team, and the spiritual formation team(teaching and preaching).

Some of the changes we have made in these areas were adirect result of ongoing conversations that we had with the team leadersregarding ways that we could enhance our worship experience together.

Some of the more pronounced changes were elevating the placeof the Communion within our worship gathering. By making the Communionavailable every week we have brought the remembrance and celebration of the‘body of Christ’ to a central theme of our gathering. This change required adifferent method of serving the Communion. By inviting people to come forwardto partake we have encouraged proactive participation rather than passivelywaiting to be served.

We have also made a few changes in our sound system toimprove the sound quality. We’re working on getting better and keeping the slidesin sync with what we’re singing and saying. There are a few improvements stillto go which we will announce later in the year. In addition we need some folkswith technical abilities to step up and join the team.

I want to thank Lonny for taking on this challenging taskand for his dedication and hard work.

The worship team has been working on getting more peopleinvolved and developing their musical skills. I’ve particularly enjoyed Eriksharing some of his own new songs with us. Thank you Erik for leading us to beworshipers and not being satisfied with the safe path and empty forms ofworship that we often become too comfortable with.

We’ve also been adding some drama into our Sunday morningworship gatherings. Brian Crow hasdone a super job and I look forward to seeing more from this area. Of course weare still working on some things to enhance our worship time together, such asstarting on time (hint, hint) but we’re making steady progress forward.

In the coming year I’d like to see us enhance our worship gatheringsthrough encouraging the expression of other artistic talents in worship such assculpture and painting. This will be a work in progress but a wonderful way tocelebrate the many expressive gifts and talents of God’s people. The arts giveus a new and vibrant window into God’s big story.

I would also like to improve and encourage more teamteaching on Sunday mornings. I think this is an important way to see and hearwhat God is doing in our church family from a fresh point of view. I want tothank Brad Reinhart for hiswillingness to be the first person to risk trying this out and working with meto develop the method a little. We’ve learned a lot from the first two attempts(mainly that we have to be disciplined in how long we share!) and I look forwardto having others in our church family share in teaching and preaching.

Finally I’ve really enjoyed hearing the ‘God Stories’ of thepeople we worship with. It reminds us that God really is at work in the livesof people. This coupled with our new seating arrangement invites each of us toengage and interact with the big Story of God as its being written in ourlives.

Thanks for all of your prayers and helpful insights.

Pastor Jerry
